Sussex Manor House Indoor Pool and Thermal Suite

Categories: Residential, Indoor

Location: Sussex, UK

Guided by a timeless design vision, this Sussex manor house showcases a Guncast 15m x 5m indoor swimming pool, designed as a freeboard skimmer pool for clean lines and efficient circulation. Alongside it sits a 2.5m relaxation spa pool featuring full-perimeter bench seating, integrated air bubble track, and massage jets for a deeply relaxing experience. A bespoke KLAFS thermal suite completes the wellness offering, with a customised sauna and steam room designed to harmonise with the property’s character.

Every detail was meticulously considered, allowing the design to blend seamlessly into the architecture. Rather than appearing as additions, these wellness spaces feel like a a natural continuation of the home’s story.

A custom-designed thermal suite installation

The KLAFS sauna, with walnut-cladding and warm sunset illumination, creates an inviting, cocoon-like ambiance. Adjacent to it, the steam room features bespoke arctic white tiling in unique formulation, complemented by KLAFS’ signature door shower handles.

Together, these spaces embody a yin–yang concept, contrasting yet harmonious. They are connected by glazing that defines each environment while maintaining an open, seamless flow between the two.

Supporting the designer’s vision

Rooted in organic harmony, the design blends traditional barn-style architecture with natural materials such as stone and oak. Light plays a central role in creating a swimming pool and wellness area that feels quietly timeless and effortlessly integrated into the manor’s historic fabric.

Interior design was led by Fiona Lawrenson Design, whose thoughtful orchestration of materials and spatial flow brought the client’s vision to life.

The swimming pool tiles complement the overall aesthetics of the total thermal area, contributing to the serene and cohesive atmosphere of the wellness space.

Technical Summary

A dedicated plant room supports the swimming pool and spa, housing filtration, ozone treatment, dosing, lighting and air handling systems.

Water quality is enhanced by Guncast’s ozone system, which uses ozone gas as a powerful oxidiser to disinfect with minimal chemical additives, improving water clarity, reducing chlorine use, and enhancing air quality in the pool hall. The system includes both an ozone generator and boost pump for optimal performance.

The KLAFS sauna and steam room are operated via touch controllers, with control panels located in a separate tech room. The sauna features Bonatherm and Majus heaters for efficient heat distribution, while the steam room is powered by a KLAFS San10 generator.
